068 Dice Tomatoes: Brian Brown’s China Date Ranch Is Hands Down The Best Las Vegas Day Trip

Forget adjectives, none of them do this place justice. China Date Ranch is one of those “you have to see it to believe it” destinations.

Only 85 miles from Vegas and you’ll think you’re in Jordan or perhaps Israel. There, in the middle of the desert at the end of 1 mile county maintained dirt road down a winding narrow canyon, is an oasis, a slice of green, right there, on the edge of Death Valley.

This place has it all, drop dead beauty in every direction, a flowing stream, a multitude of various birds, miles of hiking trails, and best of all…dates. As you’ll hear in this segment of Dice Tomatoes, according to Brian Brown, owner of China Data Ranch, dates are like apples, there are many different varieties each with their own unique flavor, texture and color.

We arrived at the ranch on a glorious early January morning and found Brian and one of his employees harvesting dates. This segment was recorded there, among the many variety of date palms some that were planted by his great aunt.

We can also report from that Brian and his wonderful assortment of dates, date breads and cookies will be returning to the Las Vegas Bet On The Farm farmers market this week, January 12, 2012 at the Springs Preserve from 10:00AM to 1:00PM.

If you live here or if you’re one of the 35 million that visit us, get in a car and experience one of the most unique, beautiful and historic sites that our country has to offer. It’s only 85 miles from Vegas, don’t worry about the last mile being unpaved, it’s the most fun, and even my stick-shift Honda Civic has no problem making the trip.

The great little gift shop has a lot to offer including samples of the wonderful dates that are grown here and date bread, cookies, made fresh daily and oh yes…date shakes!

If you’re a local or visiting us on a Thursday and have a few minutes to spare, visit the Bet On The Farm farmers market at the Springs Preserve and meet Brian and learn first hand about China Date Ranch.

We love this place…!!!!!

067 Dice Tomatoes:  Chef Marc Parma Restaurant Discusses Fresh Pasta At Las Vegas Bet On The Farm Farmers Market

Perhaps a challenger for the busiest owner-chef of a major Las Vegas restaurant, Parma, Chef Marc interviews on Dice Tomatoes Radio.

His table at Bet On The Farm is packed with beautiful transparent containers of various types of fresh pasta, made only hours ago at Parma restaurant.

So why the different shapes, where does the pasta get its green and black color and how long does it take to cook?

In Part One of this two part interview, Chef Marc delivers a wealth of information about pasta and his passion for always making and delivering the best of the best.

We also used the Chef’s newest logo, Novecento, an amazing new authentic wood buring pizza oven custom built on a trailer that literally goes where there is need for great pizza.

More on this to follow.
