063 Dice Tomatoes: California Family Farms Offers Las Vegas Chefs With The Best That California Has To Offer

It was great to renew old acquaintances at the opening of the Bet On The Farm Farmers Market at the Las Vegas Springs Preserve.

It was a cold, wet, Thursday morning, December 1, 2011, an amazing departure from the previous day’s mid 70’s glorious weather and Kerry Clasby, owner of California Family Farms and I joke about this during the opening minutes of our Dice Tomatoes interview.

But Kerry’s thoughts about small California organic farms, takes on a more serious tone.  With land prices sky high, when one generation passes the land on the next, that generation is more inclined to sell and cash out.

We’re losing a lot of farms.

But looking a the at variety and volume of product that Kerry and her crew has brought to Bet On The Farm farmers market at the Springs Preserve, you get the impression that the Golden State is a never ending cornucopia of a beautiful and abundant supply of  pristine fresh fruits and vegetables.

If you think that commute of yours across the Las Vegas valley is tough, listen in to this segment and here how Kerry makes a weekly run of over 1,500 miles each week searching out the best that California has to offer and delivering it to award winning chefs and filling the demand created by an ever more aware Las Vegas homeowner.

If you haven’t seen Kerry’s tables at a farmers market it will change the way you think about what’s available here in the desert.
