Dice Tomatoes – Carrie Hogan’s Fresh52 Indoor Tivoli Village Farmers Market To Open Saturday, July 2, 2011

And the winner is…

No, there was no official race to see who would be the first to offer a replacement venue for the former Bet on The Farm market, but the first to win that honor and to open an ‘indoor’ air-conditioned site will be Carrie Hogan’s Fresh52 Tivoli Village market beginning this Saturday at 08:00.

This may surprise many who perhaps had been swayed by the rumors, gossip, and lack of inclusion into believing that not only would others be the first to open, but now will be even more surprised to learn that Carrie appears to be on track to open an additional indoor Fresh52 location at Town Square.

Spend only a few minutes at Carrie’s Fresh52 booth at her Eastern Avenue or Tivoli Village events and you’ll come to quickly understand that Carrie is focused on building events that create a venue that supports her local community.   Perhaps there is no right or wrong here, but some will say that a farmers market should be only organic food and exclude the arts and crafts.  That’s not Carrie Hogan’s vision.  Hers is a mixed market with fresh food vendors and local artists displaying their wares.  It’s about music, kids in strollers, dogs yapping, people having a good time and yes, buying great fresh produce and coming to know our wonderful producers who grow it.

Maybe I’m missing something, but Tivoli Village and Town Square are two amazing and well known, beautiful retail destinations that attract a big crowd.  That crowd likes both the outdoors and the indoors, and that is exactly what Carrie is creating;  Arts and Crafts outdoors, fresh-from-the-field product indoors, protected from the elements.

In the end, it will be the public that will decide what type of events they will support and where they will spend their dollars.

Competition is a great thing, but let’s not forget this is a town that derives a lot of its income from gaming.  Right now, Carrie Hogan is not a long shot, and I wouldn’t bet against her.

Good luck Carrie….!!!

Dice Tomatoes: Dice Tomatoes Radio Begins Weekly Broadcasts From Derek Stonebarger’s Las Vegas Theatre7

On Tuesday, June 11, 2011, Dice Tomatoes, an affiliate of the Las Vegas Is Talking Radio Network, made its debut weekly broadcast from Derek Stonebarger’s Threatre7 in Downtown Las Vegas.

Threatre7 is Las Vegas’ Premiere, Arthouse Theatre, Art Gallery and now the home Dice Tomatoes’ radio and video studios.

We invited Marilyn Yamamoto, Organic Edibles, to join our first broadcast along with Derek Stonebarger, Patty Fantasia, Lisa Davis and others.

In addition to providing a great venue for Dice Tomatoes radio shows, it’s also a perfect place to hold producer meetings and to present films of interest to our Southern Nevada Sustainable Food community.

We want to thank another Las Vegas Is Talking affiliate, Patty Fantasia of Filmmakers Notebook, for the original introduction to Derek and and his great team of Las Vegas based filmmakers.

Listen in and meet some great people who share in our desire to grow something great is this desert of ours.
