A perfect day for an outside market.
After a day of weather more reminiscent of the mid west than Southern Nevada, a fast moving cold front moved through that brought snow flurries to the local communities in the Las Vegas Valley, and in its place we locals and tens of thousands of visitors awoke to a picture-perfect early spring Sunday morning.
Fresh52 Farmers & Artisan Market in Henderson NV, operated by Carrie Hogan, is first and foremost about location, location, location, and is located at 9480 S. Eastern, just a short distance south of the 215 in a sprawling parking lot surrounded by many restaurants and retail stores. Parking is free and abundant.
With Bet on The Farm farmers’ market currently closed, it was wonderful to visit Fresh52 and see several of our local producers who day in and day out continue to produce wonderful fresh-the-fields product in support of sustainability and to the delight of our community, including many great restaurants.
Randy & Rosilind Gibson, Bloomin’ Desert Herb Farm, were there and sharing booth space with Janet and Don Knight, Brighter Ideas, Inc. These two make a great team showcasing their wonderful products of beautiful edible flowers, herbs, leafy greens, beets, turnips fresh eggs and much more. Speaking of eggs, Andy Lane, Oaklane Herb Farm, made his debut at Fresh52 driving ‘over the hump’ from his farm in Parhump and selling out his supply of fresh eggs. Wherever he sets up shop, Don Charleboix, Pahrump Honey Company, seems to draw a crowd, and this Sunday was no exception. The beauty of his all natural honey products is really a visual treat for the eyes. And of course no Farmers’ Market would be complete without Diane Greene, Herbs By Diane, who added more than just a little extra color to her display with a wide assortment of freshly cut spring flowers from her garden.
Carrie Hogan and all the producers received a very nice surprise by a master chef, associated with major Las Vegas Strip restaurants who plans to open a new restaurant right in the shopping center and just steps from our producers’ booths. What makes this potential restaurant so important to our producers and our community is that his menu will showcase locally sourced products. That is great news, but we’ll wait until everything is formally announced before spilling the beans….sorry, no pun intended.
Thanks to all our producers for just being who you are….the best a community could hope for.
